Stop Waiting Until August to Remember Your Kid Was Drowning in May

Because sun doesn’t fix executive dysfunction. And “let them be kids” doesn’t help if the kid is silently panicking about September.

Let’s cut to it:

If your kid was unraveling in school this spring, the sun and some pool time didn’t magically fix it.
They’re still struggling. You’re still exhausted. And school is still coming.

July Is Strategic Amnesia Season

Everyone’s pretending it’s fine:

☀️ Teachers stop emailing
☀️ Therapists go on vacation
☀️ Parents pray sunshine fixes what the school year broke

But listen

If your kid couldn’t function in May, they won’t magically thrive in September unless something changes.

This isn’t shade. It’s survival strategy.

💥 Why Summer Doesn’t Fix Executive Dysfunction

  • ADHD doesn’t take a break

  • Anxiety doesn’t care what month it is

  • Dyslexia didn’t magically get remediated by sunscreen

Summer removes pressure. That’s why they seem okay. But when August comes, so do the meltdowns.

👀 Why Parents Look Away in July

  • Burnout

  • Guilt

  • Hope

  • Social pressure to “relax” and “just let kids be kids”

But let me say this:

You are not wrong for planning. You are being brave.
Your child doesn’t need to be fixed. The system does.

✅ What to Do Now (Not Later)

🧠 Q&A With a Neurodivergent Family Advocate

Q: They’re finally calm. Why start now?
A: Calm is temporary. Skill-building is what sticks.

Q: They hate help. What if they say no?
A: We don’t “fix” kids we help them design systems that work for them. That changes the conversation.

Q: How is this different from tutoring?
A: EF coaching isn’t about grades it’s about everything that gets in the way of learning: time, focus, memory, overwhelm.

“We did two weeks of EF coaching in July. He started school with systems he chose, not ones I forced. No missing work, no fights, no tears.”

8th Grader, Bay Area
“I didn’t want another adult in my life. But Stacey didn’t talk down to me. She asked what I needed. Now I know how to not forget every single thing.”
